Quotation Ring RequirementsThese are the requirements and rules that all members of the Quotation Ring have to observe. Please study them carefully before you go on.

What are the basic requirements? The site may not include directly offensive or adult contents. The URL as well as the e-mail address registered with Quotation Ring shall be valid. If you change your URL and/or e-mail address, you are expected to submit the new information immediately in Site admin. What about the technical quality? The purpose of this ring is to make it easier to find quotes collections on the web. Pleasant designs are of course preferable, but you don't need to be a HTML or script expert to join the Quotation Ring. A page's appearance on the screen may depend on which browser you use. Complicated scripts or HTML errors may make a page unviewable with certain browsers. A minimum requirement in this respect is that your site can be decently viewed with both Netscape Navigator 4.0 and Internet Explorer 4.0. Which URL should I submit? As the "Site entry URL" you can choose between
Please note that an entry page with mostly advertisements on it, or practically no contents at all, cannot normally be regarded as the "main page" in this respect. On which page shall the HTML fragment be located? The HTML code is to be inserted on just the page that your submitted URL points to. You are free to put it on a separate webrings page, or some similar appendix page, as well, but you must not put the code on an appendix page only. If you have a frames site, you might find it difficult to follow this rule. In that case, click here for a tip. Framed pages makes it necessary to submit a "HTML code URL" different from the "Site entry URL". Typically the URL to the frameset is the "Site entry URL", while the "HTML code URL" shall be the URL to the actual page with the code. Under special circumstances, besides the use of frames, I may be willing to accept the code on some other page than the submitted one. In any case, it must be very obvious when a visitor has entered your site from the Quotation Ring where to go to find the Quotation Ring image. The code must also be put at a reasonably prominent place, and the "HTML code URL" shall reflect the location. However, putting the HTML code on some other page than the submitted one is an exception from the main rule. I may accept it, but you shouldn't count on it. ;-) May I place the HTML code anywhere on the page? No. I'm sure you realize that all member sites benefit from the ring membership in terms of increased traffic. One idea is that each site also shall contribute to the ring. For this reason the code is to be put in such a position that your quotes loving visitors typically can be expected to get sight of the Quotation Ring image. In any case the HTML code must be placed at the top of the page, i.e. so that the image is viewable within one of the first three screen views when you scroll the page clicking on the scroll bar or pressing the PageDown key. This means that some of the site owners, that enjoy the benfits of the ring, may have to compromise a little with their designs. I think that's reasonable. Do I accept any exceptions from this rule? Again, don't count on it. May I copy the Quotation Ring image to my server?Yes, indeed you may. You are actually encouraged to upload a copy of the image onto your own server, and edit the HTML code accordingly. May I modify the image? No. But, on the other hand, you can choose between two images with different colours. |
